Our commercial seminar: Honour All Cards - Visa Debit? was held in Melbourne on Tuesday the 25th of May 2004 from 4.30-6pm

The seminar was attended by senior executives from financial institutions, retailers, telecommunications carriers and government and looked at questions arising out of the Reserve Bank's designation of Visa debit cards as the next focus of payments system reform in Australia.
AeCN chairperson, Stewart Carter, led the seminar, and gave a presentation asking what this means for Australian businesses issuing, accepting and or processing Visa debit cards, The presentation focussed initially on questions surrounding the card organisations' current 'Honour All Cards' rule.
Carter asked whether Australian retailers should earn the right, as did US retailers including Walmart in last years multi-billion dollar out of court settlement, to reject the relatively more expensive debit cards issued by the credit-card organisations?
Or would such a move destroy the viability of proprietary debit cards?
